Speaker Icons - Volume calibration ( From version 3.4.4 )

There has been a change in which icon is used for "limited range" speakers that are now a smaller icon than the full range as you can see here below.

Which OS platforms do you currently support?

We support platforms from Windows 10 to 11, MacOS 10.14+, Android and the iOS app. ( iOS app requires hardware from NAD, Onkyo, Pioneer, Integra, or Pioneer Elite)

What can i do to avoid the error message "Low signal to noise ratio"?

The first thing you should do is to raise the volume on the lowest sounding speaker of your setup. If you have a Subwoofer, this is a great speaker to start with.

...

Second thing you can do is to lower the microphone gain slider a bit and raise the master volume instead because if the mic gain is set to high, the noisefloor also becomes higher and you still get this error. Any ventilation or hum in the room is also great if you can turn off during measurement.

How do i contact Onkyo/Pioneer/Integra support?

All customers that not have bought a license from Dirac and that use the built in Dirac software on some devices like Onkyo/Pioneer/Integra are under the support responsibility of that hardware device, in this case Onkyo/Pioneer/Integra that you can reach with this address:

Onkyo support sites worldwide

Can the Audyssey microphone that comes along with my Denon/Marantz device be used for Dirac?

No, unfournately not. We always recommend UMIK-1

Can i move a liveproject file created on a Windows computer and open it in Dirac Live on a Mac?

Yes! Liveproject files are Dirac files so this doesnt matter and all data to open a project exists in every project.

From what version can i use the Auto Target Curve ?

From version 3.3.0 our new auto target curve eliminates the need for manual adjustments, allowing new users to sit back and enjoy superior sound.

The new auto target curve more faithfully reflects the inherent character of the measured system, minus the adverse acoustic effects of the room. It gives users a balanced response with a more natural slope, creating more genuine listening experiences. The auto target curve ensures the result is lifelike and preserves more of the speakers’ individual flavor, while tightening up performance across the board. What microphone can i use and does it have to be a USB connection?

We suggest using the UMIK-1or UMIK 2 that is a USB calibrated measurement microphone for a plug&play measurement of your system and with a omni directional pattern perfect for measuring a room

...

Read in the manual of your device what the setup requires before connecting your microphone/device.

Why cant i use my new license after purchase when trying to setup for measurement?

Always log out and then log in again so the account will update itself with your new license and get confirmation from our servers.

Where should the crossover settings be when using Bass Control?

Thats different depending on situation, here is a guide you can start from:

Setting crossovers in an AVR/pre-pro with Dirac Live 2 room correction (mehlau.net)

Can I load projects made with previous versions?

Projects created with DLCT 1.x are not compatible with the newest software.

You can load projects created with 2.x and 3.x in the latest software version. However, you will need a Dirac account. If you do not have an account, please click here: https://live.dirac.com/register.

Can I load a target curve made with previous versions?

Yes, Dirac Live supports formats .targetcurve and .txt.

Why does my speaker appear as “Fullrange” when it is set to “Small” on the unit itself?

This information discriminates between subwoofers and regular speakers, and does not correlate to the small/large setting typically used in AVRs to indicate whether a speaker will be bass managed.

Why is there a red lock on the Master volume in the Volume Calibration page?

This is a safety measure to prevent damage to your speakers and hearing! If you are positive you want to push the volume past this point, you can increase the volume by clicking on the lock (red state). This will then become unlocked (green state) and accessible.

Why does the volume go down so much when returning to Volume calibration step?

Its a safety measure so your speakers dont damage if the volume is set to high after manually increasing the volume on the speakers, the software automatically does this evertime you return to the Volume calibration step.

Why is it not possible to change the hardware gain for my microphone?

Some microphones have fixed mic gain and rely on adjustments to the master volume and each channel level to get to an acceptable recording level.

Why is the volume going down so much when applying the finished filter?

You need to take into account that all properly done EQs (including Dirac Live) need some headroom in order to be able to boost those frequencies that require it without incurring digital clipping in trying to exceed 0dBFS.

Why is there only one channel to calibrate in the mobile application?

For the mobile application we use channel zero to do the calibration (typically front left channel) and will assume that this value is reasonable for the complete system. For more detailed control over the calibration process we recommend the desktop version.

In which order should I measure the positions?

You may measure the positions in any order, though it is recommended to start with the main position.

How many positions do I have to measure?

In the desktop version you are at liberty to choose how many positions to measure in order to proceed to the next step, however more measurements are better and we recommend to go through all the measurement positions before proceeding to Filter design.

In the mobile application all positions (how many depends on selected setting) must be measured before proceeding to Filter design.

Why am I only seeing up to 500Hz in Filter design?

If you have a license for full bandwidth, please use your account to log into the application as you will then be able to use additional features.

Why am I getting ”Failed to register proxy” when trying to connect to my Arcam unit with Dirac Live?

Please check that the communication settings are correct, it should be set to IP.

What is the difference between Dirac Live and DLCT 1.x?

New Dirac Live includes an enhanced phase correction algorithm for improved imaging. Additionally, where the previous version of Dirac Live individually measured the phase of each speaker, this new version also analyzes speakers in pairs. The measurement process is improved as well (and consequently the results) with the possibility of up to 17 measurements and two options for sofa setting (focused or wide imaging).
